Angels Burning

The lovely city of Angels was ablaze this past week. Quite the paradox. Fires burned killing seven people, damaging valuable and meaningful property, and displacing millions from their homes in Southern California. San Diego was hit hard, and the Chargers almost had no place to play on Sunday. But of course, this isn't the primary focus, as it shouldn't be. It's about the tragedy many have suffered losing lives, sustaining injuries, or losing property.

Yet, much of the reading I've done, has constantly put SoCal down. Amongst a time of tragedy, people are basically laughing at the situation. Why? Their reasoning largely centers around the fact that Californians are wealthy and live lavishly, as if this is some sort of revenge or just desserts. I strongly disagree. I guess we all should just pack it in and force ourselves to be poor, pitiful, and pathetic and live in small, tiny, farm lands on top of each other. How's that for incentive to achieve the American Dream? Of course there is nothing wrong with living a smaller-scale life than some people chose to live in Southern California, but there is something wrong for condemning those who have worked hard, achieved success, and choose to live in "The Hills", Malibu, or beautiful Del Mar in San Diego. Californians should be able to do so without being condemned for it. Let's not judge people. I don't think you inspired the Good Book, nor did you create the world and the people in it.

The other argument that's pervading the interweb blogging world, is that Katrina sufferers still haven't recovered and SoCal is being rebuilt already. Katrina was a huge disaster, and very poorly handled. Hopefully God will help those who are still in need. However, this does not mean every other city should drop the ball in recovering from national disaster. Currently on TV, St. Louis has donated $25K to the California Wildfire funds- the government and it's citizens. And this is the worst city in the world! But at least these people are not haters.

People have hated on Cali from the beginning of time. We're not angry though, we take it as a compliment. What's not to hate? If I wasn't from California, I'd hate on it too!
